The inaugural operation was carried out with the arrival of the tugboat and barge combination TB Megah 1611/TK MMSS 2711, operated by PT Pulau Laut Line on the Pasir Gudang–Batam–Kijing–ICA–Kijing–Pasir Gudang route. The vessel discharged 70 empty containers, officially launching container services at the terminal.

The service follows the completion of infrastructure, equipment, operational systems, and regulatory preparations undertaken by Pelindo Group and its subsidiaries. Terminal Kijing was inaugurated in August 2022 as part of Indonesia’s National Strategic Projects program to support economic, industrial, and trade growth in Kalimantan.

The launch was made possible through collaboration among Pelindo Group entities, including Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak, PT Pelindo Multi Terminal through its subsidiary PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas), and PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas through PT IPC Terminal Petikemas.

PTP Nonpetikemas currently serves as the terminal operator at Terminal Kijing, overseeing operational activities and cargo-handling services.

Kalbar Yanto, General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak, said the inauguration of container services represented a strategic step in positioning Terminal Kijing as a modern logistics hub for West Kalimantan.

“The start of container operations is an important milestone in strengthening logistics connectivity in West Kalimantan. It will support smoother cargo flows, enhance export competitiveness, and encourage regional economic growth and investment,” he said.

He added that Pelindo would continue upgrading facilities and operational equipment to improve efficiency, safety, and service quality in line with international standards.

Terminal Kijing is equipped with a 750-meter container berth capable of accommodating vessels of up to 100,000 deadweight tons (DWT), as well as dedicated multipurpose, liquid bulk, and dry bulk terminals. Supporting facilities include container and empty container yards, a container freight station, reefer facilities, and an integrated cargo inspection area.

The terminal also operates modern cargo-handling equipment, including harbor mobile cranes, quay container cranes, reach stackers, forklifts, head trucks, chassis, conveyors, hoppers, grabs, and buckets to support container, bulk, and general cargo operations.

PTP Nonpetikemas President Director Indra Hidayat Sani said the successful launch reflected the readiness of Terminal Kijing to support containerized cargo movements and expand logistics services in the region.

“The inaugural service demonstrates Terminal Kijing’s operational readiness to handle container cargo efficiently. We remain committed to delivering reliable and productive port services while working with stakeholders and customers to support regional economic development,” he said.
