Container Terminals Operation Running Normal until the 10th Day of Trucking Ban

Operations at container terminals are continuing as usual, at least until Wednesday, April 2, 2024, despite a trucking ban that has been in place for 10 days, starting from March 24, 2025.

At the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), container loading and unloading operations have been running smoothly. Sunarno, Executive at Pelayaran Tresna Muda Sejati (TMS), the official agent for Wan Hai Lines in Indonesia, was overseeing the loading and unloading of the MV Wan Hai 371 docked at JICT on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

“Everything is progressing as expected. The loading and unloading activities are on track, and port operations are functioning normally. The ship is scheduled to depart on time for Semarang (TPK Semarang) and will continue to Surabaya (Teluk Lamong Terminal),” said Sunarno.

Concerns had initially been raised about potential congestion at the ports due to the 16-day truck operation ban, which runs from March 28 to April 8. This policy had sparked fears of container buildup as delayed deliveries could affect port operations’ efficiency.

“So far, everything is running smoothly. We’ve received reports that operations at other terminals are also proceeding without issues, including at TPK Semarang and Teluk Lamong in Surabaya,” Sunarno added.

The MV Wan Hai 371 (Voy. S015 / N016) arrived at exactly 20:00 WIB and is expected to depart on April 2, 2025, at 17:00 WIB after completing the loading and unloading process. The vessel is part of the TPI Service, which operates a fleet of three key vessels: MV Wan Hai 371, MV Wan Hai 376, and MV Wan Hai 352.

“On this occasion, the MV Wan Hai 371 unloaded 330 containers and loaded 464, totaling 794 boxes, or 1,258 TEUs,” explained Sunarno Hs, representative of PT Tresna Muda Sejati, the official agent for Wan Hai Lines in Indonesia.

After departing Jakarta, the vessel will head to Semarang Container Terminal (TPK Semarang) and then proceed to Teluk Lamong Terminal in Surabaya before continuing on to Taipei and its next international port of call.

“This route is a vital part of Indonesia’s trade and logistics network, connecting key ports to international destinations,” Sunarno emphasized.

“We hope the established schedule will ensure the smooth flow of goods between Jakarta, Semarang, and Surabaya, contributing to national logistics efficiency and supporting Indonesia’s economic growth,” he added.

As a leading global shipping company, Wan Hai Lines specializes in container transportation services, with a network that spans multiple countries across Asia and beyond.

“The presence of the MV Wan Hai 371 in Indonesia not only strengthens the global connectivity network but is also expected to enhance trade relations, support economic growth, and facilitate the seamless flow of logistics both nationally and internationally,” concluded Sunarno.

Operations at TPK Semarang are also running normally, with no signs of congestion, according to Hari Ratmoko, Chairman of the Indonesia National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) Semarang.

“So far, everything is normal. Vessels are arriving and unloading containers, but there is less loading for export due to the truck ban on the land side,” Hari explained. He noted that the truck ban has reduced the availability of cargo at the terminal.
