Nilam Container Terminal (TPK Nilam), a domestic terminal operated by PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), has reported strong performance in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a successful start to the year.
On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, ship calls rose by 12%, from 173 calls in Q1 2024 to 193 in the same period this year. This growth directly contributed to a 7% increase in container volume, with 111,984 TEUs handled compared to 105,004 TEUs in the previous year.
The surge in activity was fueled by increased ship allocations and container traffic from key regions such as Bitung, Ambon, Banjarmasin, and Jakarta.
To accommodate the rise in traffic, TTL has intensified efforts to enhance operational efficiency at TPK Nilam, aiming to reduce port stay while maximizing mooring capacity.
As a result, its box/ship/hour (BSH)—a measure of container loading and unloading per hour—reached an average of 37 boxes/hour in Q1 2025. This marks a 6% increase from the previous year’s 34 boxes/hour and surpasses the target of 30 boxes/hour.
Beyond operational performance, TPK Nilam maintains a strong commitment to HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment), with a target of achieving Zero Accidents. A robust HSSE culture remains essential to ensuring safe and seamless operations.
David Pandapotan Sirait, President Director of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, emphasized that the terminal’s success is a result of improved productivity alongside steadfast safety practices. “We remain committed to delivering the best service to our users by optimizing equipment, empowering our workforce, and creating added value for TTL and all stakeholders,” he said.
Key HSSE initiatives at TPK Nilam include implementing access control to manage terminal activities, enforcing minimum safety standards for equipment and facilities, and maintaining strict oversight in high-risk areas such as docks and container yards.
