BMTH Welcomes Global Sailors for Sail to Indonesia Yacht Rally 2025

Indonesia’s state-owned port operator Pelindo, through its logistics subholding PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik, welcomed dozens of international yachts to Bali this year as the Sail to Indonesia Yacht Rally returned to the archipelago.

For the second consecutive year, the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) at Benoa Harbor served as one of the main stopovers in the rally, drawing sailors from across the world to its waters. The welcoming ceremony was held on Oct. 1.

The 2025 edition carried added significance as it coincided with the company’s fourth Pelindo Day, themed “4mplify Unity, 4ccelerate Prosperity.” Pelindo said the arrival of international yachtsmen underscored Indonesia’s ambition to expand its maritime tourism sector and boost local economic growth.

Joko Noerhudha, President Director of PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik, said the event was a platform to showcase the new premium-class marina under development at BMTH.

“Today’s gathering is not only a welcome ceremony but also a demonstration of Indonesia’s readiness to host world-class marina tourism,” he said. “We hope this marina will become a catalyst for national tourism and encourage the development of other premium marinas across the country.”

The reception featured a Bali Cultural Harbor Show, including the Panyembrama dance, Joged Bumbung, traditional gamelan music, and contemporary performances by live bands and DJs — a blend meant to highlight the meeting of Balinese culture and international maritime travel.

Ulf Backlund, President Director of PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI), said development of the Bali Gapura Marina at BMTH was progressing.

“Dock B has been completed and marks a new era for Indonesia’s maritime tourism,” he said. Backlund noted that full technical services are expected by mid-2026, followed by an expansion to 180 berths, including facilities for superyachts, by the third quarter of 2026, and the construction of a commercial center by 2028.

Organizers said Sail to Indonesia also serves as a platform to promote Indonesia’s marina potential to global sailors while delivering economic benefits to tourism, micro and small enterprises, and the maritime logistics sector. Pelindo and MDI are preparing a suite of international-standard services for visiting yachts, including fueling, provisioning, and arrival guidelines.

“We want this event to leave a memorable impression and open doors for investment and global partnerships in marine tourism,” Joko added. “It reflects our commitment as a state-owned enterprise to deliver inclusive benefits to local communities.”

Rob, an Australian participant, said the rally offered a warm welcome after months at sea.
“Sailing to BMTH was an extraordinary experience. After four months, being welcomed here and experiencing Balinese culture was wonderful. I hope to return next year,” he said.
