From mangrove restoration along Indonesia’s coastlines to scholarships that open classroom doors, PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL) says its social and environmental initiatives in 2025 are translating into measurable benefits for communities near its operations.
Throughout the year, the logistics subsidiary of state-owned port operator Pelindo rolled out 33 Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs, concentrating on three core areas – environmental protection, education and economic empowerment – as part of its push for inclusive and sustainable growth.
The initiatives, the company said, support 12 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reached more than 3,000 beneficiaries across Indonesia by the end of December.
“Our TJSL programs are not merely charitable activities,” said Dewi Fitriyani, Senior Vice President of Corporate Secretariat at SPSL.
“They are part of our long-term strategy to create lasting social, economic and environmental value for communities around our operational areas,” she said further.
Protecting the Environment, Strengthening Local Resources
In the environmental pillar, SPSL implemented seven programs in 2025 focused on waste management and conservation, reflecting growing concerns over pollution and climate resilience in port and coastal regions.
Among the initiatives were a waste sorting and processing movement in Semarang, the Carbon Village Program in Ngesrep Balong Village, Kendal, and mangrove rehabilitation projects in several SPSL work areas. Tree-planting drives were carried out at Tanjung Mas Port and in Medan, while community-based agricultural programs included lakum fruit cultivation in Mempawah and village development schemes under the Pelindo Village program.
Expanding Access to Education
Education formed the second major focus, with nine programs aimed at improving access and quality, particularly for students and educators in underserved areas.
These included the Pelindo Juara Scholarship, vocational and non-formal training under the Pelindo Prestasi Program, and Pelindo Mengajar, which brings company volunteers into classrooms. SPSL also organized port visits to introduce students to the logistics industry, provided welfare assistance for teachers affiliated with the Barunawati Nusantara Foundation in Jakarta, and ran the Pelindo Inspirational Friend (PIJAR) program throughout 2025.
Empowering Small Businesses and Coastal Economies
Economic development programs centered on strengthening micro and small enterprises (MSEs) and coastal livelihoods. SPSL implemented eight empowerment initiatives, including the Maritimepreneur program, which featured the Independence MSE Bazaar and the second year of the Pelindo Tower Local Pride Spot.
Other efforts ranged from supporting lakum fruit syrup producers and empowering the Kampung Nila Berdaya (Empowered Tilapia Village) to safety riding programs for online motorcycle taxi drivers and health checks for port laborers. Through the Fishermen’s Friend Program, SPSL provided equipment and production materials to help fishing communities improve processing capacity and income.
Broader Social Support
Beyond its three priority pillars, SPSL ran nine additional social programs addressing public health, disaster response and social welfare. These included the Pelita Program — Pelindo Lingkungan Tanpa Anak Stunting — initiatives during Ramadan, free homecoming trips organized with other state-owned enterprises, qurban livestock assistance, basic food distribution, and flood relief efforts in Bekasi, West Java.
All TJSL activities in 2025 were implemented through a Community-Based Social Responsibility approach, supported by the Employee Social Responsibility (ESR) scheme, which involved 118 SPSL employees directly in program delivery.
“By involving our people on the ground, we ensure each program is transparent, measurable and aligned with sustainability principles,” Dewi said.
“Our goal is to create long-term value, not only for the company, but for communities and stakeholders alike,” Dewi said a conclusion.
