PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Tanjung Priok has implemented a series of operational control measures to anticipate a surge in logistics and passenger traffic at Tanjung Priok Port during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday season.
Indonesia’s largest port typically experiences increased activity during the annual Eid homecoming period, prompting port authorities and operators to strengthen coordination and operational readiness to ensure the smooth flow of goods and passengers.
Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok said preparations include tighter operational traffic control within the port area, additional buffer zones for trucks, and close coordination with multiple government agencies to manage vessel schedules and cargo movement during peak periods.
“We have intensified coordination with stakeholders such as the Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), Customs and Excise, the Police, and the Transportation Agency to ensure port operations remain smooth during the Eid transportation period,” said Yandri Trisaputra, Executive General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok.
A key indicator used to monitor port congestion is the Yard Occupancy Ratio (YOR), which reflects the utilization level of container yards.
Pelindo said normal operations are maintained when the YOR remains at or below 65%. When the level reaches between 66% and 80%, the port operator will coordinate with the port authority to adjust vessel berthing schedules.
If the ratio exceeds 81%, ships may be required to wait before docking and the issuance of gate passes may be temporarily suspended to prevent congestion within the port area.

In addition to operational monitoring, Pelindo has prepared buffer areas to accommodate trucks waiting to enter terminals and implemented a container stacking discount policy aimed at encouraging faster cargo turnover.
Operational support equipment has also been placed on standby to ensure smooth traffic flow. Three tow trucks are stationed at Post 9 and the NPCT1 common area to assist vehicles experiencing breakdowns within the port complex.
The company has also activated its Crisis Management Center (CMC) and Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) to ensure rapid response to potential disruptions in port operations.
As part of emergency preparedness, three fire trucks have been deployed in strategic locations within the port area and at PT IKT facilities.
To improve coordination among stakeholders during the peak period, Pelindo has established an Integrated Eid al-Fitr Transportation Coordination Post. The post serves as a central command point to monitor operations, coordinate responses, and ensure efficient handling of cargo and passenger movements.
Beyond logistics management, Pelindo has also enhanced passenger services at the Nusantara Pura Tanjung Priok Passenger Terminal. The terminal provides facilities such as embarkation and disembarkation halls, parking areas, health services, prayer rooms, and commercial areas.
Special facilities are also available for passengers with special needs and vulnerable groups, including wheelchairs, priority waiting rooms, accessible toilets, lactation rooms, and children’s play areas.
Pelindo said its Pelindo 102 Customer Care service will remain available around the clock during the Eid holiday period to respond to customer inquiries and operational issues.
During a Ramadan iftar gathering with journalists held at the port on Thursday, Pelindo also invited media representatives to observe operational readiness and facilities directly at the passenger terminal.
Yandri said the engagement aimed to provide transparency regarding port preparations for one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
“We want the public, through the media, to understand that we have prepared various measures to ensure port activities during the Eid transportation period can remain controlled and run smoothly,” he said.
