Pelindo Keeps Ports Operating 24 Hours During 2026 Eid Travel Period

State port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia said all of its ports will remain fully operational during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr travel period to support increased passenger mobility and logistics distribution across the country.

The state-owned port operator said it has prepared a range of measures to ensure smooth port operations as traffic typically rises significantly before and after the holiday.

“We are committed to ensuring that all port services remain optimal during the Eid transportation period. Ports will continue operating 24 hours to support the movement of goods and passenger mobility,” said Achmad Muchtasyar, president director of Pelindo.

The company said preparations include strengthening operations at passenger terminals, improving coordination with authorities and optimizing port facilities to accommodate the expected surge in travelers and cargo.

Pelindo also voiced support for the government’s policy restricting freight vehicles with three or more axles during the Eid homecoming and return travel period from March 13 to March 29, 2026. The measure aims to manage traffic flows and improve safety during the peak travel season.

In line with the policy, Pelindo has introduced several operational adjustments, including traffic management within port areas, monitoring container yard capacity, regulating ship berthing schedules and optimizing terminal services to ensure efficient loading and unloading activities.

Beyond freight operations, Pelindo said it has strengthened passenger services at terminals under its management by increasing staffing, improving service systems and tightening security in port areas. Facilities such as waiting areas, information counters and passenger flow management systems have also been enhanced.

As of March 15, passenger services across Pelindo-managed terminals were operating smoothly, with more than 500,000 travelers recorded during the holiday travel period so far, the company said.

Passenger numbers are expected to rise further as the peak exodus approaches, typically three to two days before Eid. Overall passenger traffic this year is projected to increase by around 5% compared with the previous year.
