PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (PELNI), the country’s state-owned shipping operator, has carried more than 153,000 passengers in the first week of the post–Eid travel period, underscoring steady demand as millions of Indonesians return to major cities after the holiday.

The company transported 153,433 passengers between March 23 and March 29, with traffic peaking on March 28 at 25,635 passengers, according to company data released Sunday.

PELNI President Director Tri Andayani said ticket sales for the return travel period from March 23 through April 6 had reached 268,746 as of March 29.

Across the broader holiday travel window from March 6 to April 6, ticket sales totaled 585,744, equivalent to about 91% of the company’s projected 641,025 passengers. Ms. Andayani said demand is expected to continue climbing in the coming days.

The company anticipates peak return traffic around April 2 and is preparing for a further increase in passenger volumes through the end of the period.

Indonesia marks one of the world’s largest seasonal travel movements during Eid al-Fitr, when millions of people travel across the archipelago to reunite with family before returning to work.

PELNI said it is maintaining safety and service standards during the peak season and urged passengers to book through official channels to avoid fraud or sold-out sailings.
