PTP Nonpetikemas Kijing Strengthens West Kalimantan Supply Chain, Exports

PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) is strengthening supply chains and export activity in West Kalimantan through operations at its Kijing Terminal, as cargo volumes and logistics demand rise in the resource-rich region.

The terminal, located in Mempawah Regency, has served as a key hub for non-container cargo since starting operations in August 2022, supporting the flow of goods tied to plantation and mining industries.

Positioned near the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, Kijing Terminal plays a strategic role in improving connectivity and enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesia’s commodity exports, particularly bauxite, coal and alumina.

In April, the terminal resumed dry bulk operations, including the unloading of about 6,530 tonnes of bauxite from the barge BG Bahari 30073. The vessel docked on April 19, with unloading completed on April 21, the company said.

The activity supports supply chains for mineral-based industries, including Indonesia’s aluminum downstream sector, which relies on steady raw material inputs.

Kijing Terminal can handle vessels of up to 100,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) and berth more than 15 ships simultaneously. The operator has expanded capacity by redeploying equipment such as mobile harbor cranes and bulk handling tools to improve efficiency.

“Kijing Terminal is a key driver of West Kalimantan’s economy, supporting logistics flows and export activity,” said Suwanda, branch manager of PTP Nonpetikemas Pontianak.

In the first quarter of 2026, the terminal handled around 1.5 million tonnes of cargo, with dry bulk accounting for 845,000 tonnes and liquid bulk 662,000 tonnes. Bag cargo volumes reached 93% of target, while dry and liquid bulk exceeded targets at 223% and 168%, respectively.

Cargo composition shifted from a year earlier, though operations remained dominated by bauxite, coal and alumina, commodities central to Indonesia’s industrial supply chain.

The terminal also supports national strategic projects, including logistics for the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR), reinforcing its role in Indonesia’s push to develop downstream processing industries.

PTP Nonpetikemas has implemented a digital terminal operating system, known as PTOS-M, to integrate planning and real-time monitoring of cargo handling operations.

The company said it is also running community development programs focused on training and certification for local workers to improve skills and safety standards.
