Singapore Students Visit Terminal Teluk Lamong to Learn Smart, Green Port Operations

PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL) hosted a delegation of 35 students and teachers from Queensway Secondary School Singapore this week, offering them a firsthand look at how automation and sustainability are transforming port operations in Indonesia.

The educational visit, held on June 3, introduced students to the workings of a modern container terminal, including automation-based operational systems, green port initiatives and the role of ports in supporting domestic and global supply chains.

During the program, participants received an overview of TTL’s business operations, container handling processes and digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, safety and environmental performance. The visit also highlighted the importance of the maritime and logistics sectors in facilitating international trade.

TTL, Indonesia’s first semi-automated container terminal, operates a range of advanced technologies, including Automated Stacking Cranes (ASC), Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems and a centralized operations control platform designed to enhance productivity and service quality.

Students were taken on a terminal tour, where they observed vessel loading and unloading activities, automated equipment operations and digitally integrated container yard management systems.

The delegation actively participated in discussion sessions, raising questions about terminal operations, automation technology and future developments in the maritime and logistics industries.

“This visit provides an opportunity for us to introduce PT Terminal Teluk Lamong as a modern container terminal that prioritizes innovation, digitalization and sustainability,” said Dahlia Permatasari, Corporate Communications Manager of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong.

“We hope this hands-on learning experience broadens students’ perspectives on the maritime and logistics industry, which is becoming increasingly connected on a global scale,” she added.

Feroz Ali Bin Akbar Ali, Head of Department at Queensway Secondary School, said the visit offered valuable insights into modern port operations.

“Our students were able to see firsthand how automation technology and sustainability principles are applied in a working port environment,” he said.

“The experience has enriched their understanding of the global maritime industry beyond what can be learned in the classroom. We appreciate the warm welcome and learning opportunity provided by PT Terminal Teluk Lamong.”

TTL said educational outreach programs form part of its commitment to promoting greater awareness of the maritime and logistics sectors among younger generations.
