IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) Panjang has begun operating a new ship-to-shore quay container crane (QCC 004), expanding the terminal’s capacity to handle larger container vessels and support growing cargo traffic in southern Sumatra.
The crane was officially commissioned on July 2 following technical inspections that confirmed it was fit for commercial operations, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The addition of QCC 004 is part of IPC TPK’s efforts to modernize terminal equipment and improve operational efficiency as cargo volumes continue to increase in Lampung and surrounding provinces.
“This facility upgrade is our proactive response to the increasing dynamics of cargo flows in Lampung and the surrounding area,” said Yanuar Evyanto, acting director of commercial and business development at IPC TPK.

The new crane is a Post-Panamax model with a 45-meter outreach and the capability to handle vessels carrying containers stacked 16 to 17 rows across, allowing the terminal to accommodate larger ships more efficiently.
IPC TPK said the equipment is expected to improve berth productivity, increase handling capacity and strengthen the role of Panjang Port as a logistics gateway for southern Sumatra.
Representatives from the Panjang Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), the Bandar Lampung Customs and Excise Office, the Agricultural Quarantine Office, port and logistics associations, customers and Pelindo business partners attended the inauguration ceremony.
Yanuar said the investment would support operational performance while enhancing collaboration among stakeholders.
“We hope this equipment modernization will not only increase the terminal’s throughput capacity but also strengthen synergy with stakeholders in building a reliable and globally competitive port ecosystem,” he said.
