Ambon Container Terminal (TPK Ambon) recorded an 8.45% increase in container throughput in the first half of 2026, handling 56,834 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), compared with 52,405 TEUs during the same period last year, the company said.
The increase reflects stronger trade activity, logistics distribution growth, and higher transshipment container handling at the terminal, reinforcing TPK Ambon’s role as a key logistics hub for Maluku and eastern Indonesia.
“The 2026 container throughput achievement demonstrates that TPK Ambon is increasingly playing a role in maintaining smooth logistics flows in Maluku and Eastern Indonesia. Through our operational transformation program, we continue to provide more efficient, reliable, and competitive services,” said Yandi Sofyan Hadi, Terminal Head of TPK Ambon.
Yandi said the company would continue improving operational performance in the second half of 2026 through service digitalization, efficiency improvements, and human resource development.
“We now handle the container business process end-to-end, from loading and unloading activities from ships to receiving and releasing goods at stripping and stuffing locations,” he added.
The company attributed the growth in container traffic to increased regional trade and distribution activity, stable terminal operations, and stronger cooperation with shipping companies and other logistics stakeholders.
H.B. Sirait, Chairman of Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders’ Association (ALFI/ILFA) in Maluku Province, welcomed the terminal’s performance, saying the growth reflected consistent operational management and the readiness of loading and unloading equipment both at the berth and container yard.
He said logistics prospects in Maluku could improve further following the start of construction preparations for the Masela Block National Strategic Project, which was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony attended by President Prabowo Subianto on July 16, 2026.
“We believe that PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Ambon will continue to maintain consistent performance and the readiness of loading and unloading equipment, both on board and on land, so that positive growth in container traffic can be maintained,” Sirait said.
TPK Ambon said its operational transformation program has contributed to improvements in terminal productivity. Box Ship Hours (BSH), a measure of loading and unloading productivity, increased to 30.91 boxes per hour in the first half of 2026 from 22.96 boxes per hour a year earlier, representing a 34.63% improvement.
The terminal also reduced average berthing time to 15 hours in the first half of 2026 from 20 hours in the same period last year.
The company said it would continue strengthening operational reliability, equipment performance, and workforce capabilities to support logistics connectivity and economic growth in eastern Indonesia.
