Operator of Indonesia’s leading container terminal – PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) – fully supports the government (law enforcement authority bodies) steps to eradicate any practices of taking illegal fees at the port business.
In addition to improve internal management, including with the outsourcing companies as vendors handling some outsourced works, JICT also invites all customers and users not to pay fees nor tariff without official receipt from JICT.
In a press statement released yesterday (Friday, June 11), JICT’s Corporate Secretary Raditya Arrya explained that JICT is fully concerned about the problem of illegal fees at the port, and says disappointment on the recent case of the arrest of irresponsible outsourced workers at the JICT terminal.
“We are so sure only a few individuals who did this (taking illegal fees) for their owned sake. Therefore, we will always support every law enforcement effort to eradicate such practices,” Raditya said in the statement.
JICT expressed disappointment as some of the personals of the appointed outsourcing company did this (taking illegal levies). But, JICT has been intensively doing coordination with the outsourcing company to make sure no more action to take illegal levies in the future.
“We will also firmly ask the outsourcing company to continue to foster and give appreciation to workers who are responsible and dedicated both in doing their work, while on the other hand, to firmly give sanctions in accordance with applicable company regulations to those who are involved in this practice,” said Raditya.
He said the company will tighten and continue to implement the whistleblowing system that has been running at JICT to prevent violations or fraud.
Therefore, he added, any violations committed will be given severe sanctions in accordance with applicable company regulations.
Calling for Customers Participation
As the operator of the largest container terminal at Tanjung Priok, Raditya explained, JICT will focus to improve service through faster, safer, and more efficient service. Furthermore, amid the pandemic Covid-19 outbreak, exporters and importers are facing more and more additional challenges.
JICT also asks and calls for participation of any service user, customer and partner to jointly eradicate this practice. They are expected not to give or pay any illegal fees, except for the official tariff with official receipt.
“We expect all port business stakeholders to keep and create a healthy business which is also free from any illegal levies and fees,” Raditya said, adding that firm and consistent law enforcement step will further increase the competitiveness of services at Tanjung Priok Port, especially at JICT.
