IPC TPK Panjang Serves Direct Call to China for the First Time

Container terminal operator IPC TPK Panjang has launched direct call services to China for the first time, handling the maiden voyage of the MV MAERSK NASSJO, which docked at pier E of Panjang Port, Lampung, on October 29, 2024. The vessel will operate on the route from Jakarta to Tanjung Pelepas and Qingdao.

“The introduction of this new service was driven by the increase in exports of Lampung Province’s key commodities, such as pineapple, coffee, pulp and paper, and palm oil derivative products like palm acid oil. We hope this service will pave the way for additional routes to further boost exports from Panjang,” said Anang Subagyono, Manager of IPC TPK Panjang Area.

The MV MAERSK NASSJO, a Liberian-flagged vessel, has a length overall (LOA) of 171.9 meters, a beam of 32 meters, and a depth of -7 m LWS. The new service commenced with the loading and unloading of 1,033 boxes, totaling 1,369 TEUs of containers. This service enhances opportunities for businesses to send goods to China without the need for transit.

According to the Lampung Province Central Statistics Agency, exports in August 2024 rose by 43.60% compared to the previous year, while imports also increased by 1.13%. China remains one of the largest export destinations for Lampung Province.

“From an operational standpoint, our focus is on optimizing loading and unloading services to ensure that docked ships are served quickly and efficiently, with personnel and equipment readily available. We are optimistic that collaboration with shipping companies will attract larger vessels with direct call services to various destinations,” Anang added.
