Indonesia Shipping Agencies’ Association (ISAA) fix up coordination among its executive boards of all chapters nationwide through its first National Coordinating Meeting this year. Some issues have been corridor talks during the meeting, including issues of regulation, organization, business operation, and future potencies of shipping agent business.
Hosted by ISAA Chapter Jambi and held on March 4 at Hotel Aston Jambi, the meeting was done both by offline and online (virtual Zoom Meeting).
In addition to all ISAA executive boards nationwide, representatives from Ministry of Transportation’s Directorate General of Sea Transportation (Hubla) also joint to open the meeting and to have dialogue on any key issues, especially regulatory issues.
On his opening speech, ISAA Chairman Aris Hartoyo appreciates the Rakor (Coordinating Meeting) ISAA Jambi as committee and addressed high gratefulness to all DPWs (regional executive boards) and DPCs (Local executive boards) of their enthusiasm for the meeting.

“We appreciate ISAA Jambi as the host of this first Rakor. This is historic as ISAA firstly conducted a Rakor and the meeting that is firstly done outside Jakarta,” Aris said in his remark speech.
Aris encouraged all members to brain storm and speak up any problems they faced, especially relating regulatory issues during the dialogue. “This is the time for us to discuss any issues relating our business, including issues on regulation,” he said.
On his welcoming speech Committee Chairman Edy Best expects this Rakor will build up solidity among the organization members and in responding issues relating agency business regulations.
“We work at many ports nationwide with different characteristic and problems. Hence, let us share any issues we find during doing business at those ports and recommend some solutions through dialogue. This Rakor is expected to set up recommendations that will be delivered to related institutions, especially to the Ministry of Transportation,” said Edy Best.
Echoing those views, ISAA Supervisory Board Head Juswandi Kristanto expects the Rakor can bridge any problems of shipping agencies business with regulatory solutions from the regulator. He also expects this Rakor will give some recommendations for regulator in formulating the regulation on business in general and shipping agency business in particular.

“We expect some recommendations from this Rakor and be delivered to related institutions for references in formulating rules and regulations,” said Juswandi.
Talking on behalf of Director General of Sea Transportation, M. Arief, Head of Sub-directorate 3, appreciates the Rakor, saying the ministry requires any inputs from ISAA as references in formulating new rules and regulations or in revising existing rules and regulations.
“The Directorate General of Sea Transportation appreciates this Rakor. ISAA has long been a partner of the directorate and has several times discussed issues relating shipping business in general and shipping agents in particular. We hope we continue to tie up partnership to dialogue any issues in the future,” Arief said.
On his presentation, Arief explained and updated any rules and regulations relating agency business. He also delivered responses to any questions and inputs from the participants.
“We will forward all aspirations and inputs from this dialogue to the directorate,” he promised.
