State-owned port operator PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (TPK) has launched a social and environmental responsibility program to boost lobster cultivation and fishery product diversification in the coastal village of Poka, Ambon City.

The initiative, titled “Pengembangan Usaha Budidaya Lobster dan Diversifikasi Olahan Hasil Perikanan di Kawasan Smart Fisheries Village Desa Poka, Kota Ambon” – Development of Lobster Cultivation Business and Diversification of Processed Fishery Products – is part of Pelindo TPK’s commitment to empowering coastal communities.

The program is carried out in partnership with the Marine and Fisheries Resources Development Agency (BPPSDMKP), the Ambon Fisheries Training and Extension Center (BPPP Ambon), and Mutiara Pelindo.

Pelindo Terminal Petikemas has provided Rp 309 million in funding for lobster farming facilities, seed distribution, and training programs for local fishermen and women’s groups. The initiative aims to strengthen capacity, self-reliance, and competitiveness within Ambon’s marine sector.

“This program reflects our commitment to implementing ESG principles and supporting sustainable development in Indonesia’s maritime industry,” said Yandi Sofyan Hadi, head of Pelindo TPK Ambon.

“We hope it brings tangible benefits, raises coastal incomes, and strengthens the local marine economy.”

Ambon City Secretary Roberd Sapulete welcomed the initiative, saying the collaboration between the city government and Pelindo TPK helps enhance coastal economic resilience.

“Through cross-sector cooperation between government, business, and communities, the Smart Fisheries Village program in Poka represents a strategic effort to foster innovation and self-reliance among fisheries entrepreneurs,” Roberd said.

“It not only supports food security and the maritime economy but also improves the livelihoods of coastal residents,” he said further.
