Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Streamlines Services, Transfers Berlian Terminal to TTL

PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP), a subholding of Indonesia’s state-owned port operator Pelindo, has officially handed over the management of Berlian Container Terminal (TPK Berlian) in Surabaya to PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), as part of its ongoing business restructuring initiative following Pelindo’s merger.

Effective today, July 1, 2025, TTL assumes full operational and non-operational control of TPK Berlian, previously managed by PT Berlian Jasa Terminal Indonesia (BJTI), a Pelindo subsidiary. The move is part of what the company calls a “business purification” strategy aimed at streamlining operations and consolidating terminal management.

“All planning, control, customer service, commercial functions, and stakeholder relations at TPK Berlian are now under the responsibility of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong,” Widyaswendra, Corporate Secretary of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, said in a statement on Tuesday.

The company said the transfer was executed with detailed preparation, including outreach to customers and coordination with BJTI employees. Socialization efforts were also made to ensure minimal disruption during the transition.

The inclusion of TPK Berlian marks TTL’s growing footprint in container terminal operations, following its takeover of TPK Nilam in May 2024. TTL is expected to bring a more unified approach to terminal operations within the Pelindo ecosystem.

“With the addition of TPK Berlian under TTL’s management, we hope to elevate service standards and create a more seamless container terminal operation,” Widyaswendra added.

Industry Welcomes Move as Step Toward Efficiency

Shipping and logistics stakeholders in Surabaya have welcomed the transfer, viewing it as a positive step toward improved efficiency and streamlined governance.

Stenven H. Lesawengan: “Hopefully, this consolidation will support efficiency.”

“The business purification strategy is a legitimate move. We hope it leads to more effective company management,” said Stenven H. Lesawengan, Chairman of the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA), Surabaya branch.

In addition, Stenven expects this to create service efficiency. “Hopefully, this consolidation will support efficiency through reducing waiting time and lower logistics costs, which are our main concerns.”

From the logistics sector, Sebastian Wibisono, Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) Surabaya, echoed similar sentiments. While acknowledging Pelindo’s full authority in managing its terminals, he emphasized the importance of maintaining, if not improving, current service standards.

Sebastian Wibisono: “We hope this shift leads to even better services.”

“We understand this is entirely Pelindo’s prerogative,” said Wibisono, also known as Wibi. “But we hope this shift leads to even better services. Continuity and reliability in port operations are vital for logistics players.”
