TPK Berlian New Berth Begins Operation, Boosting Port Efficiency

State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), through its Sub-Regional Java Regional 3 and subsidiary PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), inaugurated the Berlian Timur Pier BT05 on Friday, expanding container handling capacity at Tanjung Perak Port to improve national logistics efficiency.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Purwanto Wahyu Widodo, Head of Pelindo Sub-Regional Java Regional 3; David Pandapotan Sirait, President Director of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong; Burhanudin, Head of Berlian Container Terminal (TPK Berlian); and Roniah, Head of the Port Section of the Tanjung Perak Main Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP).

Increasing Port Capacity, Competitiveness

In his remarks, Purwanto said the operation of BT05 reflects Pelindo’s commitment to strengthening port integration and competitiveness, particularly in eastern Indonesia.

“The operation of Berlian Timur Pier BT05 is a concrete result of synergy between Pelindo and Terminal Teluk Lamong in strengthening the national logistics supply chain,” he said.

“With this facility, loading and unloading capacity at TPK Berlian will increase significantly.”

He added that the project’s completion stemmed from strong collaboration among various Pelindo units and a shared commitment to operational safety.

“Pelindo remains committed to enhancing integration of port infrastructure across Java to build an efficient, modern, and sustainable logistics ecosystem,” Purwanto said.

Operational Readiness Ahead of Peak Season

TTL President Director David Pandapotan Sirait said the launch comes at a crucial time as ports prepare for a seasonal surge in cargo movement ahead of Christmas and New Year holidays.

“The operation of the East Berlian Pier reflects our commitment to ensuring smooth logistics flow at Tanjung Perak, especially in the eastern terminal area,” David said. “With this added capacity, we can serve more vessels and containers faster, safer, and more efficiently.”

Initial operations at BT05 will use a Harbor Mobile Crane (HMC), pending the arrival of two container cranes (CCs),  each 140 meters long — relocated from Surabaya Container Terminal (TPS) and expected to arrive in February 2026.

The pier has been designed to accommodate both HMC and CC operations, ensuring continuity in case of technical disruptions.

Strengthening Maritime Ecosystem

Construction of the East Berlian Pier was completed in 500 calendar days, with 93.51% of work finished as of November 2, 2025, and all main structures completed on schedule.
A joint technical evaluation by TPK Berlian, Pelindo Sub-Regional Java, and a supervisory consultant confirmed that the pier structure is safe for HMC operations. The pier can support up to 1,300 tonnes, well above the 460-tonne load of the HMC.

TPK Berlian Head Burhanudin said the terminal had undertaken structural tests and operational simulations to ensure readiness.

“This marks TPK Berlian’s readiness to face growing logistics activity,” he said. “HMC operations at BT05 are the first step toward full container crane operations scheduled for early 2026.”

The opening of BT05 expands TPK Berlian’s container-handling capacity within the Tanjung Perak Port area, reinforcing Pelindo and TTL’s role in improving Indonesia’s maritime competitiveness.

“With support from Pelindo and Terminal Teluk Lamong, we believe BT05 will enhance loading and unloading productivity and provide better service for our customers,” Burhanudin added.
