Pelindo, Jakarta Government, and Ministry of Transportation Sign Deal on Coastal, Seaport Development

Indonesia’s state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), the Jakarta provincial government and the Ministry of Transportation have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop coastal areas and seaports in the capital, officials said on Tuesday.

The agreement brings together the Jakarta administration, Pelindo and the Directorate General of Sea Transportation under the Transportation Ministry to support integrated and sustainable management of Jakarta’s coastline, with the aim of boosting economic value and improving community welfare.

“The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, fully supports the Jakarta provincial government’s program to develop coastal areas and seaports in Jakarta,” said Muhammad Masyhud, Director General of Sea Transportation.

Under the agreement, the parties will cooperate on a range of strategic programs, including port and supporting infrastructure development, flood control and drainage systems, integrated port transportation facilities, and the development of heritage-based tourism areas.

The initiatives are also expected to involve multiple stakeholders, including Jakarta’s agencies for food security and maritime affairs, water resources, transportation, culture, and tourism and creative economy, as well as the Directorate General of Railways.

Pelindo Acting Director of Business Development Putut Sri Muljanto said the cooperation aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen port management in North Jakarta.

“Pelindo is committed to playing an active role in supporting coastal area and seaport development in DKI Jakarta through collaborations that are in line with regional development plans,” Putut said.

Pelindo currently operates two major ports in Jakarta: Sunda Kelapa and Tanjung Priok.

Sunda Kelapa is known for its historical significance and tourism appeal, while Tanjung Priok is Indonesia’s largest and most modern port, handling both domestic and international shipping.
