Higher ship calls, cargo, container throughput and passenger traffic through May underscore Pelindo Multi Terminal Tanjungpinang Branch’s expanding role in supporting connectivity, trade, tourism and regional economic growth
PT Pelindo Multi Terminal (PMT) Tanjungpinang Branch posted higher ship calls, container throughput, cargo volumes and passenger traffic during the first five months of 2026, reflecting stronger port activity in the Riau Islands and reinforcing its role in supporting regional trade and connectivity.
PMT Tanjungpinang Branch operates three strategic ports (terminals): the Sri Bintan Pura Port (Passenger Terminal), which serves domestic and international ferry services; Sri Payung Batu Anam Port; and Sei Kolak-Kijang Port, a hub for cargo handling operations.
Ship calls across the three ports reached 268 through May, up 34% from 200 in the same period a year earlier.
Container throughput rose nearly 30% to 13,490 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), compared with 10,382 TEUs in January-May 2025. Non-containerized cargo increased 26% to 49,757 metric tons from 39,528 tons a year earlier.
Passenger traffic also climbed, with 50,360 travelers using the terminals during the January-May period, up 13% from 44,423 in the corresponding period of 2025.
Branch Manager Adyttia Dusmara said the gains reflected a sustained growth trend rather than a one-off increase.

“The growth trend has continued not only this year but over the past two years,” he said.
Company data showed container throughput rising steadily in recent years, reaching 26,100 TEUs in 2023, 27,557 TEUs in 2024 and 28,853 TEUs in 2025.
Adyttia said the branch expects container volumes to exceed 30,000 TEUs this year as throughput during the first half has already surpassed internal targets.
“We are optimistic that the target can be achieved because first-half realization has exceeded the company’s work plan,” he said.
Passenger Terminal Key Contributor
The stronger operational performance has also translated into improved financial results, according to Adyttia, who also serves as General Manager of Pelindo Regional 1 Tanjungpinang.
He said the company’s revenue and profit have continued to grow in recent years in line with rising activity across its terminals.

“Our financial performance has remained positive. Revenue continues to increase, supporting profit growth, and based on the first-half trend, we expect 2026 profit to exceed last year’s,” he said.
One of the key contributors has been the Sri Bintan Pura Passenger Terminal, which serves as the main gateway for passenger movement in the Riau Islands and an international entry point for travelers from Singapore and Malaysia.
The terminal also operates domestic services linking Tanjungpinang with Batam, Tanjung Balai Karimun and other destinations across the Riau Islands.
According to Adyttia, revenue generated by passenger services at Sri Bintan Pura is now comparable with cargo-related revenue from the Sei Kolak-Kijang Terminal.
“The Sri Bintan Pura Terminal now contributes to company revenue at a level comparable to cargo services at the Kijang Terminal,” he said.
He said higher passenger traffic is expected to generate broader economic benefits by supporting tourism, trade, transportation, hospitality and small businesses across Tanjungpinang and the surrounding region.
