Expanding Cold Chain Business, Meratus Procures New Vessel, Reefer Containers

Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), a subsidiary of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Sub Holding (SPTP), welcomes the call of Meratus’ MV Cilegon that carries as many as 220 reefer containers from Taicang, China. These reefer containers remain a part of Meratus’ investment in expanding its cold chain services.

Top executives of Pelindo Headquarter and Meratus joint the welcoming procession, including PT Pelindo President Director Arief Suhartono, CEO of Meratus Farid Belbouab, the board of directors of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Sub Holding, the board of directors of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, the board of commissioners and directors of Meratus.

In his remark speech for the welcoming procession Farid Belbouab explained that Meratus’ investment in these assets (reefer containers) remains a strategic breakthrough and represents a significant leap forward in Meratus’ commitment to cold chain capabilities.

“Procurement of this new vessel, additional reefer containers, and the introduction of MFresh emphasize our dedication in providing up to date solutions and prove our experience so far which will later be implemented in the cold chain sector.  Meratus is strategically positioned for dynamic growth in cold chain logistics, and we are very enthusiastic about the enhanced services we can offer to customers,” said Farid.

In her welcoming speech, Rima Novianti, Director of Strategy and Commercial at PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas expressed support for Meratus in developing its cold chain business, especially in serving the East Indonesia in which MV Cilegon is mostly deployed.

MV Cilegon will serve the Kalimantan region, while market demand for fresh food continues to increase.

“We know that there is quite a lot of potential in the eastern region, especially fish and marine products. As a potential region, Pelindo, together with the government, continues to develop the eastern region of Indonesia,” said Rima.

MV Cilegon is equipped with the updated innovations systems specifically designed to streamline loading and unloading, thereby increasing productivity and reducing waiting time at the port. In addition, the reefer utilization rate in the industry reached 1.4 times by 2023, indicating a rapid growth in cold chain business.
