The Indonesian Shipping Agencies Association (ISAA) marks its learning centre kick-off by conducting the first batch of International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code) training.
ISAA is committed to supporting the Directorate General of Sea Transportation’s (Ditjen Hubla) policy that emphasizes the importance of competent human resources (HR) in the marine transportation sector, particularly within shipping agencies.
In line with this commitment, ISAA has launched the Insan Samudra Asasta Abadi Learning Center (ISAA Learning Center), an Education & Training Institution (Lemdik) located at the ISAA Secretariat on Jl. Swasembada XI, Tanjung Priok.
The first batch of training, which took place recently, hosted a class of participants from member companies holding the SIUPKK (Shipping Agency Company Business License).
“The establishment of the ISAA Learning Center is part of ISAA’s support for government policies, particularly the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, in improving HR competency within shipping-related service businesses, including ship agencies,” Aris Hartoyo, the General Chairperson of ISAA said on his remark speech for first batch IMDG Code training class on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Eduard Sijabat, ISAA General Secretary and Director of the ISAA Learning Center echoed it, saying the IMDG Code training focuses on the procedures for handling and transporting dangerous goods at ports, in compliance with Permenhub No. 16/2021.
“In response to the needs of our members across Indonesia’s ports, we plan to conduct similar training sessions in various regions. While we have previously organized training in collaboration with other Lemdiks, our newly established Lemdik will enable us to offer even more comprehensive and effective programs,” Eduard added.
Capt. Renaldo Sjukri, M.M., M.Mar., Head of the Sub Directorate of Sailing Order at the Directorate of the Sea and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP) of Sea Transportation appreciates this IMDG Code training. In his remarks during the online training session, he emphasized the vital role of ship agents, who are often the first point of contact with ship captains, particularly those of foreign vessels entering Indonesian ports.
“It is crucial for shipping agency personnel to be well-trained and equipped with the necessary competencies, such as those provided by the ISAA Learning Center,” Capt. Renaldo said.
