The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Thursday, was a momentous occasion, attended by high-ranking government officials including the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, and Bali’s Deputy Governor, I Nyoman Giri Prasta. Their presence underscored the multi-sectoral commitment to transforming Bali into a globally recognized maritime tourism destination.

“The development of Bali Benoa Marina aligns with our strategic vision for Quality and Sustainable Tourism,” stated Deputy Minister Puspa. “We’re committed to streamlining tourism permits, enhancing public-private collaboration, and ramping up global promotion — all with sustainability at the core.”

Echoing this commitment, Deputy Governor Prasta emphasized the project’s long-term benefits for Bali’s economy and ecology. “This isn’t just infrastructure; it’s a catalyst for inclusive economic development. We welcome this cross-sector initiative while ensuring that Bali’s rich marine biodiversity is protected.”

Spanning 3.3 hectares, the Bali Benoa Marina will be developed across three zones featuring integrated green spaces and advanced berthing facilities. With capacity for 180 yachts, including 50 superyachts of up to 90 meters in length, the marina will host a Premium Yacht Club, Crew Club, MICE venues, F&B outlets, offices, and retail areas.

Pelindo’s Strategy Director, Prasetyo, emphasized that the marina marks a pivotal chapter in the company’s transformation journey. “BMTH will become a central node in Indonesia’s maritime tourism network. We’re building more than just berths — we’re crafting a seamless, premium sailing experience that positions Indonesia as a competitive force in global maritime tourism.”

Logistics and Hinterland Development

The project is being executed under the stewardship of PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL), Pelindo’s subholding focused on logistics and hinterland development. Ruri I. Rachmaputri, SPSL’s Commercial & Technical Director, noted that strategic partnerships are key. “We’re working with top-tier partners to ensure this marina meets international standards, prioritizing environmental sustainability and economic impact.”

Among those partners is PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI), tasked with overseeing construction and future operations. MDI President Director Ulf Backlund described the project as a landmark moment: “Bali Benoa Marina is a bold leap forward. It sets a new benchmark for Indonesia and opens a world of possibilities for elite maritime tourism.”

Local Roots, Global Reach

Construction has already begun with the production of state-of-the-art floating concrete pontoons — a hallmark of world-class marinas such as Porto Montenegro and Royal Phuket Marina. Notably, the manufacturing process employs local labor, reinforcing the project’s role in boosting regional employment and economic activity.

Initial operations are scheduled for late 2025, with full completion, including all supporting facilities, expected by 2027. Once operational, Bali Benoa Marina aims to be a magnet for superyachts and a key driver of economic growth, not only for Bali but for Indonesia’s broader maritime sector.
