Benoa Marina Pontoons Enhance Tourism Logistics Ecosystem, Says SPSL

Indonesia’s state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) has launched a series of international-standard marina floating docks (pontoons) at Benoa Port in Bali, a key step in the transformation of the area into a premium global maritime tourism destination.

The floating docks, or pontoons, were unveiled on Saturday by Pelindo’s logistics subsidiary, PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL), as part of the ongoing development of the Bali Benoa Marina, located within the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH).

The move follows the groundbreaking ceremony held in late May and underscores growing momentum in the state-backed effort to elevate Benoa’s status in global yachting and cruise tourism.

“This development aligns with our commitment to creating a world-class, sustainable marina ecosystem,” said Ruri I. Rachmaputri, SPSL’s Commercial and Technical Director.

“The Bali Benoa Marina is not just infrastructure; it’s a reflection of Indonesia’s ambition to compete on the global stage in maritime tourism.”

The new pontoons were manufactured by SF Marina Indonesia under license from Sweden-based SF Marina Systems, a world leader in floating concrete dock technology. Engineered to endure tidal changes of up to 3.2 meters and withstand high wave activity, the pontoons feature reinforced buoyancy and structural resilience.

Constructed using modular components, Pier B of the marina will include 11 pontoon sections in various sizes, ranging from 20×5 to 12×3 meters, with a total span of 192 meters. Each pontoon, weighing roughly 34 tons, is designed to support a minimum load of 500 kilograms per square meter, allowing for diverse port operations and vessel types.

The project is being executed in partnership with PT Marina Development Indonesia and incorporates Seaflex mooring systems, a flexible and weather-resistant solution widely adopted in international marinas.

Government officials, including Aprianus Hangki, Head of the Benoa Class II Harbormaster and Port Authority Office, attended Saturday’s launch alongside representatives from key ministries and private sector partners.

“All port activities, including the deployment of these pontoons, comply fully with maritime safety and environmental protection standards,” Hangki said. “We hope this collaboration between the government, state-owned enterprises, and private sector will contribute meaningfully to Indonesia’s economy, especially through maritime tourism.”
