Dockers (dockworkers) at Berlian Container Terminal (TPK Berlian) have received Basic Life Support (BLS) training and an occupational health and safety (OHS) refresher as part of the company’s efforts to strengthen safety culture in a high-risk working environment, the terminal operator said on Monday.
The programme, attended by registered dockworkers (TKBM), was held on Jan. 20 as part of Indonesia’s National Occupational Safety and Health Month, which runs from Jan. 12 to Feb. 12 under the 2026 theme: “Building a Professional, Reliable, and Collaborative National OHS Management Ecosystem.”
Terminal Head Burhanudin said the initiative was aimed at embedding safety awareness beyond regulatory compliance.
“National OHS Month 2026 is a momentum for us to ensure that safety is not just a matter of rules or slogans, but a culture inherent in every individual working at TPK Berlian,” he said.
During the session, participants were trained on workplace safety policies and procedures, the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and standardized hand signals for dock operations. The hand-signal system, known as “Commander TKBM,” follows ISO OHSAS 18001 standards and is used to guide loading and unloading equipment operators both on board vessels and at the quay.
In addition to preventive measures, dockworkers were also trained to respond to emergencies. The BLS component equipped participants with basic first aid skills to enable quick and effective action in critical situations.
Burhanudin said collaboration among all workers was essential to reducing occupational risks.
“We recognize that implementing an OHS culture requires real collaboration from everyone working in the TPK Berlian area to minimize risks and achieve our zero-accident target,” he said.
The programme also introduced Corporate Life Saving Rules (CLSR), which outline five core principles for safety implementation: hazard and risk identification, adherence to work standards and procedures, proper use of PPE, competency of facilities and infrastructure, and prioritization of OHS practices. TPK Berlian hopes the initiative will help reduce workplace accidents and ensure safe terminal operations, supporting long-term business sustainability and productivity, Burhanudin added.
