PELNI Offers 20% Discount on Container Shipping Rates After Eid Holiday

National shipping company PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia  (PELNI) is offering a 20% discount on container shipping rates in a bid to sustain cargo volumes following the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, when freight demand typically declines.

The discount applies to bookings made between March 27 and April 30, regardless of departure dates, the state-owned shipping company said. The program covers both dry and refrigerated containers transported on five passenger vessels: KM Dobonsolo, KM Ciremai, KM Gunung Dempo, KM Dorolonda and KM Sinabung.

PELNI said the discount applies only to base freight rates. Handling charges, including loading and unloading fees at ports, will remain unchanged.

“This program is a strategic step to maintain freight transport performance during the post-Eid low season,” Corporate Secretary Ditto Pappilanda said.

The company said the offer is available to regular customers without quota limits, subject to vessel capacity. Bookings can be made through the MyCargoo feature on the PELNI mobile application or via branch offices.

The discount excludes shipments of empty containers, which are subject to a separate pricing scheme.

PELNI is targeting a container load factor of at least 70% on its passenger vessels during the post-holiday period. The company expects the initiative to help stabilize cargo flows and support distribution across Indonesia, including to remote eastern regions.

The move underscores PELNI’s broader effort to maintain the reliability of the national logistics network during seasonal demand fluctuations.
