State-owned ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Aceh provincial government on Tuesday to strengthen maritime connectivity and ensure the continuity of ferry services in the region.
The agreement, signed at ASDP headquarters, focuses on maintaining operations in Aceh’s archipelagic areas, where transportation links are critical due to challenging geography.
ASDP Director of Operations and Transformation Rio Lasse said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving service reliability and accessibility.
“This collaboration is a strategic step to ensure ferry services are more responsive to community needs while strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic development,” he said.
The cooperation includes the continued operation of KMP Aceh Hebat I, which serves the Simeulue–Calang route, a key link for passenger travel and logistics distribution.
Between January and March 2026, the vessel transported 9,820 passengers and 3,565 vehicles, highlighting strong demand for ferry services in the area.
ASDP Regional I Executive Director Theresia Damayanti said the partnership builds on previous cooperation and will focus on improving service standards.
“We remain committed to prioritizing safety, security and service quality, supported by enhanced vessel facilities, maintenance systems and human resource development,” she said.
Aceh provincial officials said the agreement would help support regional economic growth, improve logistics distribution and expand access for island communities.
ASDP said the collaboration underscores its role in connecting regions across Indonesia while advancing a more reliable and sustainable ferry transport system.
