Kupang container terminal (TPK Kupang) held a safety awareness session this week to reinforce occupational safety and health (OHS) practices among port workers.
The session, titled “OHS Culture: The Key to Productivity and Occupational Safety,” took place on Thursday and was attended by dozens of stevedoring workers, known locally as TKBM. It focused on improving adherence to safety procedures, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and communication during cargo handling operations.
Terminal Head Andhik Wahyu Kristianto said the initiative aimed to help workers better identify risks and strengthen safety practices in daily operations.
“For us, nothing is more valuable than human life. This session is not just routine education but also a forum for dialogue to understand challenges faced by workers in the field,” he said in a statement on Friday.
He added that closer coordination between terminal management and workers would be key to achieving a “zero accident” target while maintaining smooth logistics flows.
The program also sought to reinforce consistent PPE use, structured communication during loading and unloading, and risk mitigation measures in high-risk operational areas.
One participant, TKBM worker Oriaser Metboki, said the session helped raise awareness about safety amid fast-paced work conditions.
“Sometimes in the field, because we work quickly, we can become less careful. This reminds us that safety is essential,” he said.
PTP Nonpetikemas said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reduce workplace accidents and improve operational efficiency by fostering a more disciplined and safety-conscious workforce.
