Company says all injured passengers have received medical care as authorities investigate cause of engine-room fire aboard KMP Aceh Hebat 2.
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) said it is prioritizing the treatment and recovery of victims injured in a fire that broke out in the engine room of KMP Aceh Hebat 2 at Ulee Lheue Port in Banda Aceh on Friday.
The state-owned ferry operator said it has been coordinating with hospitals, medical personnel, local authorities and other relevant agencies to ensure that all victims receive appropriate medical treatment and support.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo expressed concern over the incident and said the company’s immediate focus is on assisting those affected.
“We express our deepest concern over this incident and extend our apologies to the victims, their families and all affected parties,” Heru said in a statement. “Our priority is to ensure that all victims receive the medical care and support they need throughout the recovery process.”
According to ASDP, all victims had received medical attention as of Friday evening. The company said two victims remained under observation in the emergency department, while eight were undergoing surgery or additional medical treatment. Five other victims had completed surgery and were receiving intensive care under close medical supervision.
Medical assessments have been carried out for all injured victims, with treatment provided according to the severity of their conditions, ASDP said. Several victims continue to require intensive monitoring and follow-up treatment.
The company said it is also assisting victims’ families by providing updates on patients’ conditions and facilitating their needs during the treatment process. Some family members have arrived at hospitals in Banda Aceh, while others are traveling to the city to accompany their relatives.
“We recognize the important role families play in supporting recovery,” Heru said. “We are working to ensure that family members have access to information and can remain close to their loved ones during treatment.”
ASDP said it will continue to monitor the condition of the victims through coordination with hospitals and medical teams and will prioritize all necessary treatment and recovery efforts.
Separately, the company said it is cooperating fully with authorities investigating the cause of the fire. The findings of the investigation will be used to evaluate and strengthen safety procedures and operational standards, ASDP said.
“The safety and security of our passengers remain our highest priority,” Heru said. “We are committed to strengthening our safety culture, enhancing operational preparedness and ensuring that all victim support and recovery efforts are carried out responsibly.”
