Higher export-import activity and new shipping services lifted June container volumes 73.7%, reinforcing Panjang Port’s role as southern Sumatra’s key logistics gateway
IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) Panjang reported a 73.7% year-on-year increase in container throughput in June, driven by stronger export-import activity and new shipping services that boosted domestic and international cargo flows.
The terminal said the sharp increase reflected rising trade activity in Lampung and surrounding regions, supported by growing international container volumes and stronger domestic logistics connectivity.
“The growth underscores Panjang Port’s increasingly strategic role as the main gateway for cargo flows in southern Sumatra,” Daniel Setiawan, senior manager of corporate secretariat at IPC TPK, said in a statement.
He said the June performance demonstrated the company’s ability to respond to changing logistics demand while supporting the region’s supply chain.
The increase was supported by the deployment of an additional ad hoc vessel by Pulau Laut Lines, which expanded capacity for international cargo shipments, and the launch of a new domestic shipping service by PT Buaya Mas Prima that increased inter-island container traffic.
IPC TPK said the higher volumes were also supported by reliable terminal operations and coordination with shipping lines and other port stakeholders, helping ensure efficient cargo handling during the period.
The company expects the expansion of shipping services to support regional economic growth while strengthening Panjang Port’s role as a logistics hub serving southern Sumatra.
“We hope the expansion of shipping networks by our partners will contribute to sustainable regional economic growth while strengthening IPC TPK Panjang’s role in facilitating efficient supply chains,” Daniel said.
