IPC TPK Pontianak Throughput Rises 7.47% in 2025 on Strong Trade Activity

IPC TPK reported a 7.47% year-on-year increase in container throughput at its Pontianak terminal in 2025, supported by stronger trade flows and rising distribution activity in Indonesia’s West Kalimantan province.

According to company operational data, the Pontianak Container Terminal (TPK Pontianak) handled 283,045 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025, up from 263,391 TEUs recorded in 2024.

The growth was driven by higher shipping activity and increased cargo volumes. In December 2025 alone, ship calls rose by 43 vessels compared with the previous month, contributing to an additional 438 containers, or 404 TEUs, handled during the month.

Several shipping lines operating at the terminal posted strong annual growth. Ganendra Catra Sakti recorded a 2.82% increase in container volumes, while Indo Container Line saw a sharp rise of 40.55%. Meratus Line posted the largest growth, with volumes surging 93.40% from the previous year.

Domestic container traffic in the Pontianak area also expanded significantly, rising 19.75% year-on-year, reflecting growing inter-island distribution activity within West Kalimantan.

“The continued growth of the Pontianak area throughout 2025 demonstrates the increasingly strategic role of the terminal in supporting regional logistics and trade flows,” said M. Loutfie Hidayat, manager of the IPC TPK Pontianak Area.

The terminal’s performance aligns with data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) for West Kalimantan, which showed sustained strength in foreign trade during the year. In November 2025, the province recorded exports worth US$177.13 million, while imports stood at US$51.02 million, resulting in a trade surplus.

For the January–November 2025 period, West Kalimantan’s cumulative foreign trade surplus reached approximately US$1.13 billion, underlining the region’s robust export performance and supporting demand for container handling services at the Pontianak Container Terminal, a key gateway for the province’s exports and imports.
