PTP Nonpetikemas Cirebon Strengthens Logistics Services, Environmental Controls

PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) Cirebon Branch said it continued to strengthen its role in supporting the national logistics supply chain through the handling of strategic commodities, while reinforcing environmental controls to support sustainable port operations.

The company said it successfully unloaded 14,983 tons of imported bulk salt from Australia on May 21 using the ship-to-ship (STS) method, as part of efforts to maintain the stability of national salt supplies for industrial and public consumption needs.

The unloading process involved transferring cargo from MV IPSWICH BAY to BG Emmery 28 and BG Castbay 3002, each with a capacity of around 7,500 tons, before the cargo was transported to Cirebon Port and delivered to the stockpile area of PT Niaga Garam Cemerlang.

The Branch Manager of PTP Nonpetikemas Cirebon said the STS method had become a strategic solution to ensure efficient and reliable distribution of bulk commodities.

“The implementation of ship-to-ship operations reflects our commitment to providing effective, safe and efficient services to support the national logistics supply chain, particularly in the Cirebon region,” the branch manager said in a statement.

Located along the northern coastal route of West Java, Cirebon Port plays a strategic role in distributing national commodities. In addition to salt, the port handles dry bulk cargo such as coal, sand, cement, gypsum, corn, palm kernel shells and oilseed meal, as well as liquid bulk commodities including asphalt, RBD palm oil, crude palm oil and biodiesel.

The port also handles general cargo, including project cargo and offshore rig cargo.

PTP Nonpetikemas Cirebon reported that cargo traffic reached 1.36 million tons/cubic meters as of April 2026, up 27.91% from 1.06 million tons/cubic meters recorded in the same period last year.

The company said the performance exceeded its corporate work plan and budget target, reflecting the increasingly important role of Cirebon Port as a logistics hub supporting industrial and national distribution activities.

Alongside operational growth, the company said it continued to strengthen health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) measures, including the installation of dust-retaining net fences to minimize dust exposure around port operations.

The environmental control measures aim to maintain air quality in the port area and improve safety and comfort for workers and surrounding communities, the company said.

“All operational activities are carried out by prioritizing occupational safety, shipping security and compliance with environmental and operational standards,” the company said.
