TPK Nilam Strengthens HSSE Culture with Fire Safety Training

TPK Nilam, one of container terminals at Tanjung Perak Port Surabaya operated by PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), has reinforced its commitment to workplace safety by conducting hands-on training in the use of portable fire extinguishers (APAR) as part of its Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) program.

The session, held on Wednesday (October 29, 2025), forms part of TPK Nilam’s annual initiative under the ISO 45001:2018-based Occupational Health and Safety Management System. The company said the training is aimed at strengthening employee preparedness in responding to fire emergencies and minimizing operational risks.

“This training not only fulfills regulatory requirements but also underscores our dedication to building a safe work environment grounded in a strong safety culture,” said Retno Pujianto, Terminal Head of TPK Nilam.

He added that every employee should be equipped to respond quickly and effectively in case of a fire. “Mastering the basic use of fire extinguishers is a vital skill for protecting people, company assets, and the workplace,” Anto said.

The training was divided into two stages, theory and practice. The theoretical session focused on occupational safety principles, hazard identification, and emergency communication protocols. The practical session allowed participants to handle fire extinguishers directly in simulated fire situations, following standard safety procedures.

“Safety is everyone’s responsibility, not just one division’s,” Anto said. “Through regular programs like this, we aim to instill a culture of preparedness across all departments to reduce potential risks in the field.”
